குதிரை

புரவி, நான்கு கால்களைக் கொண்ட பாலூட்டி வகை விலங்கு; Equus ferus caballus অশ্ব, ঘোড়া குதிரை அரேபியாவிலிருந்து இறக்குமதியான விலங்குதான்.​ அது கப்பலில் வந்து இறங்கியவுடனேயே அதனுடைய அரபுப் பெயர் நீக்கப் பெற்று,​​ தமிழ்ப் பெயர் சூட்டப்பட்டது.​ அது கரையில் இறங்கியவுடன் "குதித்து' ஓடியதைப் பார்த்துக் குதிரை என்றான்;​ "பரிந்து' ​(வேகமாக)​ ஓடுவதைப் பார்த்துப் பரி என்றான்!
